Projects include: Facade Improvement Grant Program, “Best Dressed Windows” Initiative, Downtown Mural Program and Public Art, Christmas Decor upgrades, the Center Street Bridge Illumination, and more.
Promotions
Marketing and promoting our downtown with advertising, events, and activities. Projects include: Oil City Farmers Market, Music on the Square, BridgeFest (with the Oil City Arts Council), O.C.toberFest, “Oil City Uncorked” Wine Walks, Small Business Saturday, Oil City’s Christmas Past, Jingle Bell Run 5K, and others.
Economic Vitality
Keeping and attracting businesses and finding new uses for underutilized property. Projects include: Business Resource Guide, Available Space inventories, building & business inventories, educational workshops and small business support, the ARTS Oil City Artist Relocation initiative, and more.
Organization
Shaping the Oil City Main Street Program by building volunteers, partnerships, and resources in the community. Projects include: annual meeting, fundraising events, governance & bylaws, community surveys, program branding.
Safe, Clean & Green
Keeping our business district clean and safe. Projects include: Oil City Cleanup Day/Adopt-A-Block, Sidewalk Planters & Hanging Baskets, and others.
Arts Revitalization
Supporting the artist relocation efforts of ARTS Oil City, an economic development initiative originally spearheaded by the City of Oil City in 2006 that has turned Oil City into a growing artist community.
Public Art
Further developing the outdoor art installations and murals in downtown Oil City. Originally formed in 2016 as a mural review panel, this committee is exploring all types of public art, developing a community input process and organizing a public art master plan.
How the Main Street Program Works
The Main Street Approach is a community-driven, comprehensive strategy used to revitalize downtown and neighborhood business districts throughout the United States. It is a common-sense way to address the variety of issues and problems that challenge traditional business districts.
